When hearing the word home, we tend to image a traditional building made from bricks, concrete or perhaps even wood, but now there’s an economical alternative that’s a big time-saver too: prefabricated houses. Modular or prefabricated homes allow you to move through the process of choosing a home, its construction, to moving in at a pace not permitted by traditional housing.

When choosing a modular home, first it’s important to find out the price and what's included in it. Prefabricated house prices are generally calculated per meter squared, but it also depends on the interior, paint and other details.

To give you an idea of just how great an option prefabricated homes can be, today we’re taking a look at a fabulous prefab home in Brazil, by architects, AP Architecture. Let’s get started…

It appears fairly ordinary from the outside

Looking at the façade there’s no obvious difference between this prefabricated home and any other house. Initially, the most obvious feature is the wide glass windows that insure the interior gets lots of natural light.

Cool one-of-a-kind design

The home’s dimensions are 12.5 x 7.5 x 3.5 m/70 m² (length, height, width and area), with an unusual tall, thin design that gives the building a unique character. Although only covering an area of 70 m², the home is designed in a way that uses the space in a practical and charming way. Here on the ground floor the space is made to feel much larger by the living room’s double height ceiling at six meters.

Strategic use of space

The house is divided into various sections: the office, bathroom, kitchen, laundry room, and living room, as well as two main halls on the second floor. The picture above depicts the home’s entrance: a long corridor that allows ease of access, and culminates in the living room and the kitchen at the far side of the property.

Glass galore

Imagine walking down the stairs every morning and being greeted with this view: the airy space, morning light and the cosy family room equipped with wide padded sofa. The architects have done a fantastic job of turning a potential weakness of the property into a strength by using the home’s unusual dimensions – and expanse windows to ensure maximum natural light – to create a very spacious feeling home with a warm atmosphere.

Quick and easy construction

Because the prefabricated home is basically just assembled on site with the parts already made the construction is super quick. The main framework of the building is a structure made from galvanized steel; differing from typical homes that commonly use brick and concrete.

Eco-Friendly

The home has an outer layer of cement while on the inside plasterboard board is used. One of the advantages of steel framed design is the speed of its construction, as the average construction period of just five months. Not only that, but the finished product is stronger and more environmentally-friendly thanks to reduced waste in the construction process.
