A good drainage system is essential in stormy weather in order to prevent flooding. We highly recommend installing a French drain (which is named after the guy who invented it, not the country) to be completely safe. Basically a French drain is a slightly sloped trench filled with gravel and a pipe which diverts water away from the house. It's best to consult with an expert to enquire about installing one.
