Working full time from home is no longer as strange a concept as it was some years ago. Even office-goers sometimes need to complete the residual work at home. Home offices or studies, doubling up as domestic offices, are therefore a necessary addition to the home. It is one corner of the home where peacefully concentrating on the work at hand becomes easy.

It's no hidden secret that an organised home office makes work enjoyable and hassle-free. Today we will discuss a few steps that can help you to keep your home office organised and tidy.

Use lightweight or foldaway furniture

If it is small space that you are trying to manage, use furniture that is lightweight. Foldaway tables and chairs are also useful for this purpose.

Those living in tiny or one room apartment may particularly find the latter suitable, because then you can use any particular zone of your apartment in multiple ways. Minimal décor would also assist in keeping your small home office organised to your liking.

Follow a spring cleaning schedule

To keep any space organised, following a strict spring cleaning schedule is very important. Your home office needs periodic cleaning to maintain its polished look. Decide on a cleaning routine and adhere to it.

As opposed to occasional cleaning, tending to this space at regular intervals will reduce your workload and keep your work space in order.

Get a good organiser

A good organiser can help you sort out many of your stationery, including memos, notebooks, adhesive tapes, notebooks, sticky notes and so on. When tidied up this way, small items like these never get misplaced. Moreover, this helps to maintain a neat and tidy look.

Good lighting is a priority

It is best to build a workstation as close to the windows as possible. Make sufficient arrangements of artificial lighting, too – an adjustable desk lamp would be ideal.

This is more than just an issue of aesthetics – inadequate lighting can cause severe physical distress. A home office decorated in this fashion looks more cheerful as well as suitable for working long hours.

Add storage to the spare wall

Glossy storage cabinets mounted on the wall help to keep this extremely small home office thoroughly clutter-free. Increasing the amount of storage is an effective mean of decluttering your home office or study, thus keeping your focus intact and your mind organised.

You can also add a shelving system if you are not in possession of one already. Use these shelves or cabinets to organise your files, books and other important documents.

Keep your inspiration in front of you

Keep your inspiration visible – right in front of you. Frame it and decorate the wall with it. Use a quip or quotation that seems to be an echo of your own heart. However, do not clutter the walls with too many such kind of remarks.

It would be better to create this using your own hands. You will be able to weave your thoughts and dreams into the wall art you created.

Clean up your table at the end of your day’s work

Do not forget to maintain a clean work station. At the end of the day every day, safely store away all your important files in the cabinet. Throw the stray papers in the wastepaper box. Pens, pencils and other smaller items should be tucked inside the drawers or organiser.

Small but regular activities like these are bound to help you to maintain a thoroughly organised and elegant home office.
