From dated to divide – the team from Isshiki Reiji Architects completely transformed this 95 square meter apartment. The result is truly beautiful. Opening the space up, they have created a freely flowing social heart that is finished with the most delightful materials.

Like all of the studio's exquisite designs, it is simple, rational, refined and open. Now, let's step inside and take a closer look…

'Before'

Here we can see the 'before': the carpet is dull and lacklustre, the wallpaper is dated, as are the light fixtures.

The space feels truncated, divided, and small. But the architects saw something more – they saw it's potential and realised it! So enough of the old, let's take a look at the result…

The living room

You would hardly believe it is the same space. The carpet has been removed, and in its place is a stunning natural wood floor. The planks wrap up the wall to form an incredible feature in the room. The ceiling and beams are painted in white, giving the show over to the beautiful grain and texture of the wood.

The furniture is simple: a lovely couch is pointed toward a wall hung television with a floating shelf beneath, a lone lamp stands guard at its side, and a pot plant adds a hint of greenery. It is minimal, but carefully considered and thoughtful.

Connection

Spinning around 90 degrees, we can take in the connection between the living space and the adjacent kitchen and dining areas.

The ceiling beams form a rhythm in the space and act as natural divisions; distinguishing without separating.

The new light fixtures are contemporary and cool – a far cry from the old one! For more lighting ideas, you're sure to find some wonderful inspiration here: Home Lighting Ideas You'll Love.

The kitchen

And how about that kitchen?! It is such a clever play on division and connection!

Enclosed within white walls, it feels separate and distinct, yet those large servery windows means it isn't shut off from the rest of the social space. Just wonderful!

The bathroom

Before we close the book on this wonderful renovation, we'll take a quick look at the bathroom! No mere afterthought – there is as much attention to detail given to this space as there is to any other space in the home. And the beautiful timber feature wall makes a re-appearance  - the perfect touch to take this bathroom from drab to delightful!

It's hard to fault this stunning and sophisticated renovation - they did a terrific job! Check out another - the transformation of a languishing apartment.
